MORE DETAIL FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO EXPLORE

Our Goals

1. A Way to Make Time for Ourselves When Time Is Short

The main aim of this programme is to do something for ourselves when time is short, and to keep it up. Information is everywhere now; what matters is putting it into practice.

Taking steps with a programme designed so that anyone can easily follow it, and not underestimating small efforts, holds great potential for healing: approaching ourselves with compassion, without overloading or pushing ourselves, and without blaming ourselves when we can't manage. We're setting out with anyone who wants to give this a try.

2. Reconnecting With a Body That Can't Relax, Keeps Scattering and Can't Focus

Mental and psychological stress, and the physical fatigue of trying to keep up with our responsibilities, make our bodies tense up; as the load builds, we can lose the ability to relax. This can show up as teeth clenching, clenching the whole body, pelvic floor problems, pain, fatigue, low energy and poor sleep.

Here, starting with nervous system regulation, we set out to understand our bodies and reconnect with ourselves. We work on the things in our lives that don't fit how humans evolved, or that don't fit who we are, and try to realign.

  • Aligning the body's posture
  • Creating the conditions for the breath to flow freely through the body, and working on breathing
  • Supporting the body's fascial integrity with osteopathic touch, and learning self-massage
  • Healing our hard-working body with exercises specific to the jaw and face, actively retraining movement

3. Practising Safely With a Specialist

This programme brings together my physiotherapy and osteopathy training, 11 years of professional experience, 8 years of jaw-joint-specific training and patient experience, and the approaches I've gathered through my own healing journey.

Practices that let us take a holistic view of the jaw joint and the whole body:

  • Physical exercises (focused especially on the spine, core stability and the head and neck: corrective exercise, rehabilitation training, clinical Pilates, relaxation techniques, Somatic Experiencing practices, Feldenkrais exercises)
  • Breathing work (supports both physical relaxation and the balancing of psychological stress, and supports the nervous system)
  • Osteopathic techniques and self-massage we can do on our own

4. From Clenching Our Teeth, and Ourselves, to Steps Towards Holistic Health

In my career, the work I've done with patients who come to me for teeth clenching starts from what's going wrong in their life and body and guides them towards change, and in doing so it really serves their overall health.

So, just as in my experience, approaching our health in small steps in this programme has the potential to help us focus on the things we've always needed to improve: perhaps noticing a problem or deciding it's finally time to see the right doctor, start a nutrition plan or make movement part of our lives.

If you'd like more detail on the holistic perspective, you can also read the article below.

Appendix: A HOLISTIC VIEW OF TEETH CLENCHING

Because of our circumstances, strain and stress, our bodies react somatically: we tense up and end up in pain. One visible result of clenching ourselves is clenching our teeth, because the jaw is very strong and clenching it is very uncomfortable.

We approach teeth clenching by looking for the reasons the whole body can't relax and working on them: first releasing and balancing, then strengthening and increasing stability.

So, to work on the face, we:

  • Work on the posture and alignment of the whole body, starting from the feet, within the continuity of the fascia
  • Work on intra-abdominal pressure, pelvic floor pressure and the freedom of the diaphragm, and on correct, balanced movement
  • Free the breath so it flows correctly and easily through the body
  • Restructure the movement and contraction of the face and jaw muscles using somatic practices and neuroplasticity, breaking out of the clenching cycle
  • Encourage self-practices that build awareness of issues that lead us to clench ourselves, such as a large belly, an unsettled gut, chronic inflammation, attention problems, procrastination and lack of motivation
  • Use hands-on massage both to relax the muscles, support lymphatic flow and balance visceral organ mobility, and to reach the psychological balance that comes from taking time for ourselves and from touch

But don't worry about how you'll manage all of this; it will be given to you step by step, gently, when the time is right.

Within a month you'll have the basics of a holistic view of teeth clenching and how to ease it, and you'll have started practising. In the following months you can join the continuation group whenever you like.

If you'd like to take this step together, go back to the top and sign up.

With love,
♥ Asude.
